There is no exaggeration in saying that the development of the canvas sneaker came with basketball. In the 1950s and 1960s, professional American athletes wore canvas sneakers and sought the functional design of the present day. “Doek Basket” follows the design of the open-lacing basketball shoe and eliminates anything that could be viewed as a specific statement by only considering the material and making the best use of it. The upper uses “New Chamois” which is made of domestic gabardine fabric. The texture is very smooth and has just the right amount of luster, giving it a different look from plain-weave canvas and making it easier to wear all year round. The gabardine fabric, which is densely woven with fine thread, has excellent water repellency and durability, not to mention that caring for it is easy because it is 100% cotton. The footbed is made of cork, which is a naturally breathable material. The vulcanized manufacturing method, which is based on careful handwork, creates products that are necessary and sufficient for today’s lifestyles in terms of beauty, ease of wear, and durability.
DOEK SHOE INDUSTRIES
“Doek” is the original brand of GoodWeaver. Doek is the Dutch word which is the etymology of the Japanese word zukku (“canvas”). Its original meaning is “textile”. The mission of “Doek” is to “make sneakers with high-quality textiles”. From expressive canvas made from old-fashioned power looms, to modern fabrics made with new technologies. They create products that complement the material.
- Gabardine is a twill-weave fabric with a tight weave. It is woven with a twill weave at a stronger slope than usual, and the characteristic diagonal ridgeline appears on its surface. It was invented in the United Kingdom in the 18th century, and it revolutionized rainwear at the time due to its excellent breathability and resistance to bad weather, eventually developing into the trench coat of the present day.
- CARE METHOD
- Please remove the laces when washing. Put powder detergent (neutral detergent) in lukewarm water and let it soak for about 30 minutes. Rub soap on the dark spots of the upper fabric, and rub it with a brush so that it foams up. Please do not be too forceful here so as not to damage the fabric. Dirt on the rubber part of the sole can be effectively removed by rubbing it with a melamine sponge. Next, once thoroughly rinsed with lukewarm water until there are no more bubbles, please stuff a towel inside the sneaker so as to keep its shape, then spin-dry them in a dryer for about 10 to 30 seconds. Afterwards, it is recommended that they be dried in the sun or in the shade in a well-ventilated place as quickly as possible.
